I got to travel all over the country to compete in national tournaments and made life-long friends.

After graduating from Northwestern University with a major in Communication Studies and Psychology, Jessica Lowe ’03 did what most recent magna cum laude graduates do: She joined a live sketch and improvisation comedy company and moved to Amsterdam.

Working for Boom Chicago, Jessica spent two and half years in the Netherlands, before doing a four-month tour with The Second City on a cruise ship. “I moved back to Los Angeles about a year and a half ago, and I have been pretty busy auditioning ever since,” says Jessica.

All those auditions have paid off. Jessica will appear in the upcoming movie “Blended” with Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. Jessica plays Ginger, the wife of former Saturday Night Live comedian Kevin Nealon, in the film that premieres May 23. “We shot for six weeks in South Africa this summer, “says Jessica. “It was a dream come true!” Check out the trailer here.

Jessica says she didn’t study drama in school, but her experience at the Academy helped her grow and develop as a student and a performer. “The extracurricular activity that took up the majority of my time was the Speech and Debate team,” she says. “I joined in 10th grade and absolutely fell in love with it. I got to travel all over the country to compete in national tournaments and made life-long friends.” At Northwestern, she became heavily involved with theater and comedy groups.

In addition to the upcoming film, she also has shot commercials with Michael Bolton and Tom Brady, recorded five national voice over radio spots, was selected as a New Face of Comedy at the 2013 Montreal Just for Laughs Festival, and wrote, produced and starred in RobotDown, a YouTube sketch comedy trio. Jessica recently earned a role in the new TBS pilot, “Untapped,” voiced several roles on an animated Comedy Central pilot called “Bros in Arms” and she continues to perform live sketch comedy at two theaters in LA. She also just wrote her first pilot and is working on a second.

“My ultimate goal is to act on a sitcom and do animation on the side,” says Jessica. “I want to send my parents on a luxurious vacation every year.”
